Vision Awards 2008

Dear film makers, film enthusiasts and friends,

We’d like to draw your attention to the Commonwealth Vision Awards, jointly organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society and the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, to encourage the development of short film production.

Broadcasters and independent filmmakers from across the five regions of the Commonwealth are invited to submit a written proposal for a short creative film, between 3 - 4 minutes in length, on the theme for 2008, ‘Global Challenges and the New Generation’.

In conjunction with the 6th Student Film and Video Festival 2009 (to be held in January, at UPM), The Festival Committee will be giving a brief introduction to their latest award category - PERDANA AWARD. This new category will showcase the best of short dramas and short documentaries to be produced by students. In conjunction with this category the Committee will brief students on the rules, regulations, funding and prizes involved in this category.

Important dates to look for:
Super pitch submission: 8th September till 8th October 2008
Super pitch Presentation: 11th October 2008
Opening and Seminars: 8th January 2009
Awards night and Closing: 10th January 2009

Prizes:
Anugerah Perdana : Certificate, Trophy and RM 1000
Anugerah Cipta: Certificate, Trophy and RM 1000. ( RM500 for additional categories)

If you are interested, you may come over to the Film and Animation Studio in MMU Cyberjaya on Tuesday, 16th Sept 2008, 1pm for their competition briefing. Further details will be added later.

Held for its second year by Jidou Limited, the creative powerhouse of “Original Animation for a Global Market from China”, the Jidou IN-DE (INdependent Digital Entertainment) Awards is an Annual Animation Competition in Asia that celebrates and recognizes excellence in independent animation.

The main objectives are to discover & nurture young talents; encourage creativity & innovation; and promote the importance of protecting intellectual property rights within the Digital Entertainment Industry in Asia.

The theme for this year is “Futuristic Fairytales

Program Karyawan Muda RTM1

The Information Ministry together with Jabatan Filem Negara Malaysia and Jabatan Penyiaran Malaysia will be organising the Program Karyawan Muda (If translated directly = Artistic Youth Programme)

The programme is open to all Malaysians aged 30 years and below. The Artistic Youth Programme will formally replace the Short Film Awards that was previously done in 2006

This programme is aired on RTM every Saturday and Sunday for 30 minutes beginning 19th of July. The show will run for 48 weeks until the 28th of December 2008.

There are 4 main categories that will be contested for the show; Comedy, Experimental, Documentary and Animation.

3rd China (Beijing) International Student Animation Festival

Main Venue: Communication University of China (CUC). Beijing, China

Initiated by Communication University of China in 2006, [Aniwow!] China (Beijing) International Student Animation Festival is a state-level and international cartoon and animation festival.

It is approved by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and co-undertaken by Animation School of CUC, Beijing KAKU Cartoon Satellite TV and the Education Committee of China Animation Association.

Adhering to the principles of authority, originality, academic stress and internationalization, the festival aims to construct a globally renowned platform to show the achievement of cartoon and animation in the world and promote China’s original cartoon and animation films.

We sincerely welcome experts and friends from the world animation and digital media communities to join [Aniwow!2008], to communicate with young generations and masters from the china animation industry, and to experience the ancient history and the modern charming in the city of Beijing.

Power & Grace Short Film Competition

Categories: Documentary, docu-drama, drama, animation, and short films

The inaugural Power & Grace Short Film Competition is a nationwide competition open to students as well as independent and amateur filmmakers.

The objective is to provide an opportunity for emerging filmmakers to demonstrate their artistic flair, talents and creativity, and to express their views on issues close to their hearts through the lens. The competition is also to encourage, inspire and educate young people to create films and be exposed to real life experience of deadlines, budgets, technical and artistic aspects of filmmaking, etc.

We Need Your Help Cos We Can’t Decide!

Come to www.foldees.com to rate some designs, and help us pick a winner for the “We Are All Geeks” Greeting Card Design Contest.

Over the past month (from 17th June till 24th July), we have been running a greeting card contest with the theme “We Are All Geeks”, challenging designers to come up with a new generation of greeting cards aimed at the geek inside everyone of us.

In a nutshell, the response has been amazing. After moderation for content and quality, we have ended up with 73 awesome entries, and we don’t know where to begin picking a winner! That’s why we need your help in rating these designs, from now until the 26th of August 2008. After that, we’ll award the RM7k worth of prizes to the Top 5 highest-rated cards.
