Held for its second year by Jidou Limited, the creative powerhouse of “Original Animation for a Global Market from China”, the Jidou IN-DE (INdependent Digital Entertainment) Awards is an Annual Animation Competition in Asia that celebrates and recognizes excellence in independent animation.

The main objectives are to discover & nurture young talents; encourage creativity & innovation; and promote the importance of protecting intellectual property rights within the Digital Entertainment Industry in Asia.

The theme for this year is “Futuristic Fairytales”

The Information Ministry together with Jabatan Filem Negara Malaysia and Jabatan Penyiaran Malaysia will be organising the Program Karyawan Muda (If translated directly = Artistic Youth Programme)

The programme is open to all Malaysians aged 30 years and below. The Artistic Youth Programme will formally replace the Short Film Awards that was previously done in 2006

This programme is aired on RTM every Saturday and Sunday for 30 minutes beginning 19th of July. The show will run for 48 weeks until the 28th of December 2008.

There are 4 main categories that will be contested for the show; Comedy, Experimental, Documentary and Animation.

3rd China (Beijing) International Student Animation Festival

Main Venue: Communication University of China (CUC). Beijing, China

Initiated by Communication University of China in 2006, [Aniwow!] China (Beijing) International Student Animation Festival is a state-level and international cartoon and animation festival.

It is approved by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and co-undertaken by Animation School of CUC, Beijing KAKU Cartoon Satellite TV and the Education Committee of China Animation Association.

Adhering to the principles of authority, originality, academic stress and internationalization, the festival aims to construct a globally renowned platform to show the achievement of cartoon and animation in the world and promote China’s original cartoon and animation films.

We sincerely welcome experts and friends from the world animation and digital media communities to join [Aniwow!2008], to communicate with young generations and masters from the china animation industry, and to experience the ancient history and the modern charming in the city of Beijing.

There are four categories for the competition, they are:
A. Animation
B. VFX
C. Interactive Design
D. Comic Art & Illustration

The inaugural Power & Grace Short Film Competition is a nationwide competition open to students as well as independent and amateur filmmakers.

The objective is to provide an opportunity for emerging filmmakers to demonstrate their artistic flair, talents and creativity, and to express their views on issues close to their hearts through the lens. The competition is also to encourage, inspire and educate young people to create films and be exposed to real life experience of deadlines, budgets, technical and artistic aspects of filmmaking, etc.

Calling for entries: Nicktoons Network Animation Festival

The Nicktoons Network Animation Festival is back for it’s 5th year! An event founded in 2004 to showcase the diversity of worldwide animation filmmaking, The Nicktoons Network Animation Festival is the largest multi-platform animation festival in North America.

The festival features the best animated shorts (10 minutes and under) from around the globe. Shorts selected for the festival have the chance to make it on-air, online and to be showcased at the live event in Los Angeles in October. All shorts selected to screen in the Festival are eligible to win these great prizes!

- The Grand Prize; the $30,000 Nick Development Award,
- The Grand Jury Award; $10,000 chosen by our featured 2008 judges,
- The Producers’ Choice Award, the Online Viewer’s Choice Award, and
- The Student Award in partnership with mtvU.

Attention creative professionals, amateurs and students!

DigiCon6 is a competition content award, established in 2000 and has grown to be the most recognized award in Japan in 2006. In 2007, the competition has attracted 1,939 submissions. DigiCon6 is opened to all Japanese and other Asians with the support of local multimedia development agencies such as MDeC (Malaysia), Animation Xpress (India), China Cartoon Industry Forum (China), MDA (Singapore) and more.

The MSC Malaysia Creative Multimedia Content Initiative in association with Animation Society of Malaysia, Kelab Seni Filem Malaysia and MAXIS Developer Programme is pleased to invite you to submit your original Digital Content projects to the Digicon6 Competition 2008 by Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS).

Eligible digital contents will include the following:

1. Computer graphic animation (2D/3D)
2. Live-action films shot/edited by digital movie equipment
3. All 3D-rendered films (Includes stop-motion and clay animation)
